Funeral March of the Marionette by Charles Gounod Musical Lesson & Activities


Who ever heard of a funeral for a puppet?!?!? In this case it is was French composer, Charles Gounod, who composed a funeral march for a marionette (stringed puppet). Several videos are included from 3 ½ to 6 minutes. Guided listening helps visualize the march. A life sketch of Charles Gounod (pronounced goo-no) and several activities including a make-your-own marionette are all part of this packet.

Lesson includes digital links to YouTube videos and free audio files. There are also several musical activities, drama activities, writing activities, dance activities and art activities to go along. Additionally, there is information about the composer, Charles Gounod.

This is the perfect lesson and activity for elementary school children and teachers. The song is about 4 minutes long and the lesson could take about 30 minutes. Depending on the activity or activities you choose they could take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of days.
