Parenting 000: Screen Time?
September 15, 2014
Screen time is becoming the norm nowadays. Between games, phones, computers, etc. children are spending more and more time in front of a screen. Technology is wonderful, innovative, educational, but can be detrimental as well. Children, especially, are no longer learning how to interact with people. If they spend much of their time in front of a screen, they aren’t interacting with “real” people.
Learning how to resolve differences, compromise, joke, understand and love people is lost when the “screen” is their best friend. As parents, we owe it to our children to help them develop human relation skills – and it can’t be done via screen. Try limiting screen time for a week and take note of the outcome after those 7 days. Did your family fall apart? Did everyone wonder what to do once their screen time was used up for the week? Was there more interacting between people? It could be a real eye opener!
